DOE PROJECT ON HYBRID HYDRAULIC-ELECTRIC ARCHITECTURE FOR MOBILE MACHINES

The hydraulic systems used in today’s off-road vehicles (think construction and farm equipment) are only 20% efficient. The Severson Group is part of a multi-institution team that has received funding from the United States Department of Energy to rethink this technology. We are developing new, ultra-efficient and highly compact hydraulic systems based around integrated motor/pump concepts, the latest power electronic devices, intelligent control, and a new system topology. The Severson Group will be leading the development of the electric machine and power electronic drive. Read the full article here.
