In general, my research focuses on cradle-to-grave processing of materials, both in bulk and in 2D – controlling the growth, heterostructure stacking, and fabrication processes in order to yield consistent and higher than otherwise possible quality results, which may then be used to yield interesting quantum phenomena in magnetotransport studies which are typically destroyed by disorder. Synthesis efforts routinely involve handling a variety of elements that span the periodic table and sealing under inert conditions, with the overall goal of producing novel layered materials. We then combine this with state of the art 2-D stacking techniques to produce devices that allow for the exploration of magnetism, superconductivity, and other strongly correlated effects. I’m am also interested in exploring the gambit of growth parameter conditions which determine nucleation, crystal size, and defect densities through conventional and novel scanning methods.
